Supporting Disabled Parents In Cornwall
One Year On
On Wednesday 10th March, 2010 Family History Research For You Disabled Parent Support Group held a party to celebrate their first year offering support and the move to their new premises in Bodmin. Family History Research For You Disabled Support Group is run by a executive committee. Previously homed in the town of Wadebridge, they had been unable to secure office premises locally and moved the charity into Bodmin where they now have an office in Ministry Of Signs building. A party of small voluntary staff base of assistant secretary and fundraisers as well as Sian Flynn, the conservative candidate for the North Cornwall area, who popped in to wish them the very best of luck in their hard work.
Family History Research For You is a business specializing in researching family history, carrying out research on behalf of the customer by digging into the past to reveal their ancestry and heritage. This fascinating business was the brainchild of Mary Jane who turned her hobby into a potentially successful business, she had a lot of success delving into her own family's past that she wanted to turn it into a business enterprise and already it has generated a lot of interest from all over the world.
Family History Research For You is sponsoring the Disabled Parent Support Group. Family History Research For You Disabled Parents Support Group is a self help group where people can come in, sit down and talk on equal grounds. The group offers emotional support for disabled parents and they would like to develop the group further to be able to offer a mediation service between the client and the social services where parents can go for assistance and help with form filling, grants, assistance getting disability aids etc.
As well as the obvious prejudice Mary Jane has suffered, she has also come up against barriers whilst being pregnant and in raising her family. Even a trip to the supermarket can cause problems. To get about she uses a power chair for which she uses a car with a side lift and she finds parking for cars with side lifts near impossible at times. Their latest project is to raise awareness of the difficulties in parking. Project 2010 is to have one parking space for cars with side lifts for the disabled in every car park throughout Cornwall.
The group needs help in raising funds to become a registered charity and would like to appeal to anybody willing to be a trustee for this very worthwhile cause. The group needs to raise £5000 to become a registered charity and once they have registered charity status they will then be better equipped to help disabled people and really get up and running.
Both Mary Jane and Jason are a real inspiration. They are passionate about both the Family History Research business and about the Disabled Parents Support Group. They have four children and a strong family ethos and their amazing zest and enthusiasm for life is contagious when in their company. If you would like to offer help or have any new ideas for them then please do contact them. They will be happy to hear from anybody. Please feel free look at the changes on their website www.familyhistoryresearch4u .co.uk
